The huge old oaks provide some wonderful photographic material. Even though this tree is dying as the direct result of a lightning strike, it still shows its beauty and majesty. Sometimes as we walk around these trees, we find a small surprise in the form of what we like to call “Gnome Doorways”. You’ll recognize this tree from earlier posts.
Taken by Marks using the Mamiya C330 Pro, 65 mm F35 black lens using Ilford HP5 developed in D76 at 1:1. We printed this on Arista EDU Ultra VCFB in Ethol LPD 1:3. The detail and wood grain were brought out using our split toning method with Sepia and Selenium toners which results in the warmer tones as compared to cooler black and white images.
