Here’s what we’ve been up to today.
Here’s the first print soaking in water in the tray on the right. The small tray next to it holds the two test strips that we tested our solutions on.
After soaking the print it briefly goes into bleaching solution to knock down the highlights. It is then washed to remove the bleach and is then immersed into the sepia solution. Sepia works only on the highlights.
Between each process the print is washed and the final toning is in selenium. The selenium deepens the dark areas of the print and also serves as an archival medium.
That concludes the brief lesson in toning. There will be a test……kidding. 😉
