The huge old oaks provide some wonderful photographic material. Even though this tree is dying as the direct result of a lightning strike, it still shows its beauty and majesty. Sometimes as we walk around these trees, we find a small surprise in the form of what we like to call “Gnome Doorways”. You’ll recognize this tree from earlier posts.
Taken by Marks using the Mamiya C330 Pro, 65 mm F35 black lens using Ilford HP5 developed in D76 at 1:1. We printed this on Arista EDU Ultra VCFB in Ethol LPD 1:3. The detail and wood grain were brought out using our split toning method with Sepia and Selenium toners which results in the warmer tones as compared to cooler black and white images.
This image was scanned from the silver gelatin print.
Enjoy the weekend.
this reminds me of my childhood and the gummi bears 🙂
too bad this wonderful tree is dying though…
That is just gorgeous. Your process really suits the age of the trees so well.
That’s a great name you gave it … can just picture a gnome going in there
It is a really magnificent tree! And thanks to your faboulous photographic work, it will never disappear completely. And for the gnomes sake, and ours, I hope it will remain for a long time yet.
Have a lovely Sunday!
Totally wonderful! I love the name of this as much as the photo!
