We gave you a sneak peek at the toning we were doing in the darkroom yesterday, so without further ado, here is one of images we were working on.
This poor old oak tree is, unfortunately, dying. It’s lost a lot of its bark, possibly resulting from a lightning strike. The bare wood is absolutely beautiful with all its nooks, crannies and wonderful markings. See how it resembles an elephant with eyes and a trunk?
Taken with the Yashica Mat 124G loaded with Ilford HP5 @ 200. This was split toned using both sepia and selenium with a double bleach back to knock down the highlights. It was scanned from the silver gelatin print.
I am absolutely thrilled with the way this turned out as I had not used this camera in many years, so this exceeded my expectations. I am always happy if I get just one or two good shots out of a roll of film.
Enjoy.
