The dog days of summer are here. It’s hot and sticky outside with very little relief in sight for the next few months. We have to be content to get out early in the mornings and make sure to be back in air conditioning before the day really heats up. The recent rains have added to the muggy feeling. The air is so thick you could cut it with a knife. Makes for difficult breathing if you’re doing anything strenuous.
We did go out on one of our scouting expeditions. Marks found a park not too far from where we live called Lake Ashby. We each took a 35 mm camera with us to record anything of interest. Both were loaded with expired film
Lake Ashby is a medium sized lake which has a gorgeous boardwalk that runs almost the entire length of one of the sides of the lake. Here’s a partial view of the boardwalk. Not sure if you can see the three Ibis sitting on the railing. 35 mm film doesn’t have the detail that medium format provides so you might have to look carefully.
There are gorgeous lilies growing in the shallows which open up into huge big yellow flowers.
The most amazing thing was that apart from one lone guy fishing and a parks worker we had the whole place to ourselves.
I’m guessing that they spray for mosquitoes because “Florida’s National Bird the mosquito” was MIA (missing in action).
Above is one of the amazing huge old Cypress root systems which is above ground because most of the roots are under water a lot of the time.

I think we found plenty to spend a few days photographing with our medium format cameras. Stay tuned. We will be back with more from Lake Ashby.
Very nice series of photographs again Joey and Marks – the water lily is especially beautiful!
Good to know that you’re still able to enjoy your photographic talents outdoors, even if you have to dodge the heat and humidity and the odd tropical storm 🙂
Wishing you well dear friends!

Thanks Dries. Hope you’re all doing well and enjoying a good week.
